Coming-of-age fiction has a rich history and includes some of the most memorable novels of all time. Do you have a favorite? Vote for yours below. If it's not on the list, please leave a message and I will include it in an update to this post.
Citizen of the Galaxy, by Robert Heinlein. Young Thorby is a beggar on a slave world until his pop is killed as a spy. He finds refuge aboard a spaceship, learns about their unique culture with the help of Dr. "Margaret Mader" before his life telescopes out to incredible dimensions on the farrow planet Earth. Heinlein wrote a great series of juvenile coming of age novels in the 50s that got better with each volume.
Boy's Life by Robert McCammon is probably my favorite. A few others are Midnight Rain by James Newman, Jedi Summer by John Boden, Temple of Gold by William Goldman, and currently I'm reading a really good one by Stephen Graham Jones called Mongrels.

I love Heinlein, Mark. This is one I have not read, though. It is going on my list. Thanks for sharing.
